Abstract : Ultrasonic absorption and velocity measurements were made on high density polyethylene to above the melting point. The measurements were done at 53 kHz and showed a maximum in absorption in excess of 10 db/cm above the room temperature absorption. A simple two state theoretical model (crystalline and amorphous) correctly predicted the shape of the absorption curve but not the magnitude of the peak. (Author)
