Abstract : Results of a wide range of digital computer computations on allowable parametric variations in two interacting streams, each with a thermal velocity distribution, which allow or prevent amplification, are presented. The field theory analysis of traveling wave gain in finite geometry with a lossy attenuator present is extended to discuss saturation beyond an attenuator. High power C.W. X-band tube work is in process. Crossed field Carcinotron analysis including space charge is presented which includes slipping stream effects on the start oscillation current. Theoretical studies and experimental effort on the low noise amplification aspects of molecular beam amplifiers was begun. Low noise preamplifiers designed to approach 6 db noise figure at 21 cm. for hydrogen line radio astronomy studies are being designed and constructed.
