Abstract : The article deals with the compression of the time words that are associated with zero-order data predictors. Compression of simple Markov data is analyzed using the zero-order data and time predictor. Expressions are formulated for the data, time, bit, and effective time compression ratios. Also, these ratios are given when simple Markov data is used as an input data source. The overall conclusion is that the effective time compression ratio is a function of the amount of dependency between successive time words and the number of data and time bits. Also, for simple Markov data, time compression is useful only for small bit compression ratios. (Author)
