Abstract : The strong far-infrared emission discovered at the galactic center by Hoffmann and Frederick (1968) is shown to be probably emission by dust particles; the large total mass of these particles suggests that the mass of the interstellar medium at the center of the Galaxy may be larger than indicated by the 21 cm line observations.
