Abstract : The purpose of the study was to determine how subtle gestural praise and censure interacted with evaluative dependence in affecting performance in a free-learning task. High and low levels of evaluative dependence were determined from scores on social desirability scale. In a follow-up experiment, evaluative dependence was observed when interaction was minimal and neither censure nor approval occurred. (Author)
