Abstract : The basic thrust of the research was the development and application of a technique for measuring molecular velocity distribution functions. The electron beam fluorescence technique for measuring distribution functions in helium was perfected. The technique was applied to the study of a rapidly expanding flow and a normal shock wave. A study of the flow from an evaporating surface was initiated. Related studies of the rarefraction of exhaust plume boundaries were also undertaken.
