Abstract : The report concerns surface interaction in free-molecule flow as regards both aerospace applications and molecular beams and adsorption phenomena. The most important magnitudes related to this basic phenomenon are examinated as the classical accommodation coefficients, the sitting time of molecules over the surface, and the velocity distribution function of the free-molecule surface source formed by the re-emitted molecules. Successively, the most recent theoretical and experimental methods used for studying surface interaction are examined, together with aerospace applications to the calculation of pressures and drag coefficients on missiles moving in the upper atmosphere.
