Abstract : An automatic reader for typewriter numerals is described. It reads typewritten 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and four other symbols. The readout date is yielded in the form of electric signals in a 7-digit binary code. The code can be punched. The reader output data can be marked on punchcards either in a decimal code or in the code of general-purpose digital computers. The highest reading speed is 150 symbols/sec. The reading veracity is less than one error in 10,000 signs. The automatic reader permits accelerating data introduction into computer by 75 times as compared to manual data introduction. Sample forms which can be read automatically are shown. (Author)
