Abstract : The report is a continuation of earlier work devoted to experimental research on dynamic testing of polymer materials (rubber, caprone, polyvinyl) at relatively low deformation rates (10-15 m/sec.). The present paper is devoted to higher deformation rates, and the author uses in his analysis a model developed by him earlier which accounts simultaneously for the elastic-plastic and viscous properties of the materials. A procedure is described for determining the dynamic characteristics of materials with a polymer structure by replacing the continuous medium with a system having a finite number of degrees of freedom, and two methods are proposed for integrating the equations of motion for such a system by means of an electronic computer and for measuring the tension produced in the fixed end of a sample of this material. By way of an example, the results of the calculations are compared with experimental data on the mechanical properties of fibers made of polyvinyl and of caprone. (Author)
