Abstract : The damping of a Fe-10Co-5Al alloy has been measured as a function of frequency, amplitude, and applied magnetic field in an effort to determine whether its intrinsic damping might preclude its use as a magnetostrictive transducer material. Data are obtained at frequencies from 2.5 to 21.2 kilohertz and at fields to 1300 oersteds, with the specimen vibrating in the flexural mode. The flexural apparatus designed and used for the damping measurements has several unique features necessary for magnetic damping studies. (Author)
