Abstract : Three experiments were designed to evaluate one specific type of visual display of transient underwater acoustic signals. Subjects were provided with acoustic, visual, and redundant acoustic and visual information in an attempt to evaluate the display with respect to the discrimination among three stimulus configurations. The results suggested that intersensory discriminations were superior to discriminations based on either singular mode. The influence of learning factors as potential sources of confounding was discussed. (Author)
