Abstract : The case of photoionization in which charged particles are released with an angular distribution A + B(cos squared) is discussed with a view toward finding a method of measurement insensitive to the angular distribution. It is shown that measurements made at an angle of 54 degrees 44 minutes with respect to the direction of light propagation and with respect to the direction of the electric vector fulfill the requirement, and that the results do not depend on solid angle subtended by a circularly symmetric detector. Furthermore, a direction may be chosen which fulfills the requirement for light polarized in either of two perpendicular directions, light which is partially polarized symmetrically about certain axes, or unpolarized light.
