Abstract : The number of eyeblinks of 25 subjects was compared under the conditions of four minutes rest and four minutes of muscle tension. It was found that blinks distinguished between the two conditions but not between successive minutes of muscle tension. The number of blinks during both periods correlated significantly with paper and pencil measures of anxiety. The results are interpreted as supporting Meyer's theory of the interaction of simultaneous responses. (Author)
