Abstract : Intrared spectrophotometry was used quantitative studies of highly active biological substances. Alkaloids are analyzed by utilizing precipitation reactions, formation of azodyes, and by reaction with aldehydes to form colored products. Color reactions for glycosides employ the sugar part of the molecule as the reactive site. Steroid hormones react with diazonium salts to form colored compounds. The photometric method with penicillins employs hydroxylamine. Other color reactions are suitable for determination of levomycetin, streptomycin and tetracycline. (Author)
