Abstract : A quantitative analysis of a method for shortening the pick-up time of a gas turbine engine is presented. This method involves the injection of water and supplementary fuel into the combustion chamber of the engine. Curves are included showing the turbocompressor takeoff rate as a function of various nozzle rates of fuel-water injection and of the relationship of the lines of joint work of the turbine and compressor relative to the pumpage limit with fuel-water injection. Data are also given which show the percentage of nominal power attainable with injection. The proposed method may be implemented at the cost of increasing the fuel consumption rate by 2--2.5%; with suitable nozzle equipment the engine pickup rate may be doubled. This paper was presented by Professor Ye. G. Shumskiy of the Moscow Automobile Mechanics Institute. (Author)
