Abstract : The results are presented from an experimental study of the mechanism of flame stabilization in the flow of a uniform combustible mixture on a fan stream, or a combustible mixture which forms a unique gas dynamic barrier in the exhaust stream with the development of a circulatory flow in the wake. The study is focused on the physico-chemical structure of the zone of interaction of the stream with the flow at stages close to and far from the disruption. Based on the analysis of the occurrence of a flame disruption, the authors introduce criteria of flame stabilization which satisfy the generalized limit of stable combustion. The object of the experiments was an axisymmetric flame stabilizer with a 15-mm tube diameter, an aperture width of 0.8 mm, and an outlet stream angle of 135 degrees. The stabilizer was set up at the outlet of a tube 150 mm in diameter, such that the crown was located in the center of the stream. The results of the tests are summarized in the establishment of stability conditions and in an illustrated discussion of the combustion and flow process. (Author)
