Abstract : Increased microhardness and wear resistance of electroplated Ag were obtained by deposition from cyanide electrolytes contg. addns. of Ni, Pd, Co, Te, or Sb; the increased microhardness was retained for extended periods only for the Ag-Pd and Ag-Sb coatings. Increased microhardness and wear resistance of electroplated Au were obtained by deposition from cyanide electrolytes contg. addns. of Sb, Cu, or Ag. The increase microhardness of the Au-Cu and Au-Ag coatings was retained for extended periods. The Au-Cu alloy was characterized by a somewhat reduced resistance to corrosion. The switching resistance of the electrolytic alloys was greater than for the pure metals and increased with increase in the content of the alloying components, esp. for low voltages; the difference in the resistances decreased with increased voltage. The aging of the electroplated coating was accompanied by a decrease in the microhardness. Aging was characteristic of the pure electrolytic deposited metals as well as of their alloys and was related to a decrease in the residual stresses. (Author)
