Abstract : A method is known for obtaining polyacrylamide by polymerization of acrylamide in a water-alcohol medium containing 60-95% water with monomer concentration up to 10% and a temperature of 90C in the presence of initiators. In these conditions the polymer is obtained in the form of a viscous solution, which complicates its use (batching, packaging, transportation). The proposed method is distinguished by the fact that the polymerization of the acrylamide is done in a water-alcohol medium containing 20-40% water with a monomer concentration of 30-50%. The polymer is obtained in the form of a powder. The temperature of the process is from 0 to 70C, depending on the initiator used. When persulfate of ammonia, potassium, or sodium is used as the initiator the temperature of the process is from 40 to 70C. If ionizing radiation is used as the initiator, the temperature varies between 0 and 30C. (Author)
