Abstract : Observed indifference is typically not a transitive relation. Various measurement models, taking account of this observation, are summarized. The relations among the models are discussed. Most of the models are shown to be equivalent. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the various models and algorithms are presented for obtaining the desired assignments (numerical and other) from the data. (Author)
