Abstract : The microstructure and microhardness of iron electrodeposited from a sulfate-chloride solution were investigated as functions of current density, temperature, pH and chloride ion concentration. Although there was a significant change in microstructure with increasing pH of the bulk of the solution, the microstructure was not greatly affected by changes in the other deposition conditions within the ranges studied. The microhardness decreased rapidly with increasing pH and temperature, increased with increasing current density, and was independent of the chloride ion concentration. (Author)
