Abstract : A study was made of the rate of formation of optical absorption spectra in the vacuum uv range (from 11 to 5 ev.) under the effect of reactor and gamma radiation. The structure of the absorption spectra in the vacuum uv range under gamma radiation does not differ from that under reactor radiation. The color centers in the vacuum uv range are more effectively formed by gamma radiation at comparable absorbed doses. The ratio of increase of the absorption coefficient in the 6- to 9-ev. range to the absorption coefficient of the F band in the LiF crystals (in vacuo) is greater than in the LiF crystals (in air). Therefore, the effect of admixture on the rate of color center formation varies considerably for the different centers. (Author)
