Abstract : Four potential systems of emergency exit lighting were tested. One system used RF-excited fluorescent lights, one used a chemiluminescent material, and the other two systems employed electroluminescent tapes. Luminous output of each was measured as a function of operating time on batteries, and subjective underwater tests were made in a mockup HH52A helicopter cabin. The systems are comparatively evaluated, and recommendations of requirements and specifications for a usable system, based upon the knowledge produced by this project are given. From the results of these tests it appears that electroluminescent materials offer the most promise. (Author)
