Abstract : For an age dependent branching process (Z(t);t > or = 0) with mean function m(t) we show Z(t)/(m(t)) converges in distribution to a nondegenerate limit law if and only if the sum of (j log j(p sub j) < infinity) where (p sub j) is the offspring distribution.
