Abstract : A calculation of allowed but verymuchhindered betadecay spectra was completed and applied to the beta transition from 14O to the 14N ground state. This calculation permits the use of the experimentallyobtained spectral shape as a criterion for evaluating the various nuclear models. A class of such models is described which reproduces the observed ft value and shape of the 14O decay. A discussion is presented of other transitions within the mass14 system and of ambiguities in determining the GamowTeller allowed matrix element. A computer program was prepared to calculate 'exact' electron radial functions treating the nucleus as a uniformlycharged sphere. In particular, the program avoids the phaseerror of earlier calculations, and permits 'averaging' over the nuclear volume. A comparison with previouslyreported analytic approximation is given.
