Abstract : The paper claims that an analysis of air temperature data depends a great deal on the arrangement of the observation stations, especially the so-called effective stations. The data provided by the peripheral or regional stations do not enhance the accuracy of the analysis. Interpolation discrepancies can be reduced by an optimal selection of effective stations. An optimal interpolation reveals no marked advantage over a linear interpolation, and a critical analysis of average monthly temperature data with the use of computer is said to be feasible.
