Abstract : The approximate rating of temperature stresses in seamless forged rotors is discussed on the basis of simplified methods, introducing a correction factor and an activity factor. The correction factor is determined from correlations of the experimental and calculated stresses, and the activity factor is determined from the condition of minimum potential energy deforming the rotor through temperature stresses. The temperature stresses were determined for a drum and a disk rotor made of stainless steel by solving the heat conductivity functions numerically and by modeling. The obtained data show a relatively uniform stress distribution character along the drum rotor and nonuniformly distributed stresses along the disk rotor. The approximately determined temperature stresses of the drum and disk rotors agree with data obtained by more precise calculations of finite length clylinders, and the stress levels provide the required safety.
