Abstract : Four commercial electroceramic materials, 22XC, M-7, MG-2, and Uralit, were irradiated with doses of neutron and gamma in a reactor channel and analyzed before and after irradiation by petrographic, X-ray diffraction, and IR spectroscopic measurements to define their irradiation resistance. The ceramics 22XC and M-7 consisted mainly of alpha-alumina with narrow glassy bands whose thickness did not exceed 2-3 microns. MG-2 and Uralit consisted of isometric crystals and prismatic crystals, mainly alpha lumina with narrow glassy bands. The study of irradiated specimens did not reveal any change in structure, phase composition or absorption except modifications caused by a slight widening of the glassy inclusions. The absence of essential changes indicated the high irradiation resistance of the studied ceramics. (Author)
