Abstract : The work is concerned with beam/plasma interaction in a radially inhomogeneous plasma. Electron temperature is taken into account, and interaction with the warm plasma wave modes whose cut-offs correspond to Tonks-Dattner resonance frequencies. Macroscopic theory is presented for plasma and beam filling a parallel plate strip line. Preliminary conputations of the dispersion characteristics have been carried out by an approximate method, and indicate strong growth of the various radial modes for both symmetric and asymmetric excitation. It is concluded that stimulation of these modes can explain emission of noise peaks near the Tonks-Dattner resonance frequencies for plasmas containing some fast electrons. (Author)
