Abstract : A new test method for the measurement of adhesion is described and demonstrated. This method measures the debonding fracture energy between epoxy resin and glass. The effect of moisture on such a joint is shown as are the influences of different glass finishes. Analysis of these data show that the decrease of fracture energy of a joint that results from moisture penetration is directly proportional to the quantity of water present at the joint interface.
