Abstract : The work reported is concerned with problems of atomic scattering and structure. The principal effort was devoted to the problem of the construction of a configuration space Hamiltonian describing a heavy atom; this work is still in progress. Another general problem that has been investigated is the reaction mechanisms for electron-molecule (or molecular ion) recombination; a new and more fundamental understanding has been achieved here, opening the possibility for an a priori calculation of the important reaction of dissociative recombination. These and other efforts are described. (Author)
