Abstract : Automorphism groups of some 5-designs are determined. The weights in the extended quadratic residue code of length 48 over GF(3), and associated 5-design parameters, are found. The graph arising from another ternary code is analyzed. Connections between decoding and penny-weighing are described, and two decoding methods are set down. Miscellaneous results on covering radii, on a small code with a large automorphism group, on k-th order Steiner systems, and on optimal codes are included. (Author)
