Abstract : A differential medium for identifying the pathogen of P. pseudotuberculosis was developed by seeding feces from patients with a Far Eastern scarlatina-like fever and other contaminated material. The colonies of the pseudotuberculosis germ are readily distinguished by a number of features from the other microbes. Proteus does not reproduce on this medium. The growth of the P. pseudotuberculosis germ on this medium was 25-30% greater than on Endo or Tumanskiy's media or nutrient agar while erroneously transplanted cultures suspected of being the pseudotuberculosis microbe numbered 2 to 2 1/2 times less. The medium is simple to make, does not require strictly sterile conditions for pouring and can be kept for a week at +4 degrees. (Author)
