Abstract : The possibility of producing preparative amounts of Sendai virus ribonucleoprotein in unfragmented state was studied. Detergents (sodium desoxycholate, sodium dodecylsulfate), different regimens of treatment with ether, treatment with enzymes, ethyl alcohol, and also osmotic shock were used. All these methods of treatment of Sendai virus virions caused significant fragmentation of ribonucleoprotein. The best results were obtained by prolonged incubation of a virus suspension with ether dissolved in it at 37 degrees. A large share of virions liberated ribonucleoprotein into the medium. Around 17% of it consisted of filaments with a length of 1-1.3 microns. (Author)
