Abstract : The supplying system for astronauts can be divided into three domains: (1) recovery of the secreted water, (2) gas exchange, (3) food-recycling. These operations are performed theoretically by one species of plants. By different specialized organisms this total operation should be divided into different steps. Physico-chemical methods may help to stabilize the biological operations. The efficiency of modern alga reactors is discussed. It is necessary to stretch such a supplying system, for a mere diet of algae does not agree with man. Therefore, it may become necessary to include hydroponical gardens to improve the supply of carbohydrate as well as to breed 'meat animals' to make the menu more attractive. (Author)
