Abstract : The report describes a new circuit for a clipper amplifier, a device which amplifies and limits an analog signal, preserving only the sign or polarity of the input. The new circuit overcomes some of the limitations of previous clipper circuits. The circuit utilizes integrated-circuit operational amplifiers as the gain elements, with a unique feedback arrangement to negate the undesirable characteristics of the integrated circuits. The clipper is designed for a frequency range of 10 Hz - 10 kHz and an input amplitude range of 100 micro Vrms - 10 Vrms at midband frequency. Input impedance is 10Kohm AC coupled. Equivalent input noise is about 3.0 micro Vrms. (Author)
