Abstract : An attempt is made to point out a number of general regularities in relative biological effectiveness and the factor of exposure time for various types of radiations. There is a definite interdependence between physical (peculiarities of interaction of various types of radiations with tissues, levels of doses and dose rates, linear loss of energy) and biological (level and tempo of physiological and reparational regeneration, nature of radiation injury) factors in the realization of an effect from exposure to radiation. The book is a review of the literature, both Soviet and others. Only the following three main divisions are included in the translation: (1) relative biological effectiveness of beta radiation from various radioactive substances and fast electrons of various energies; (2) comparative characteristics of the relative biological effectiveness of various forms of radiation; and (3) general regularities of relative biological effectiveness and exposure time factor.
