Abstract : Using a palladium on charcoal catalyst, the hydrogenation reactions of CF3CH2Cl, CF3CHCl2, n-C4H9Cl, and sec-C4H9Cl proceeded quantitatively at 250C and are suitable for calorimetric study. The hydrogenation of CH2 = CHF, CH2 = CF2, CHF = CF2, and CF2 = CF2 proceeded quantitatively at 120C and the heats of reaction were measured at this temperature. The hydrogenation of these fluoro-olefines at 250C produced considerable amounts of HF which, at this temperature, was very corrosive to the tantalum reaction chamber. (Author)
