Abstract : An experimental investigation was made of heat and mass transfer on a porous plate in the presence of chemical reactions in a laminar boundary layer. The experiments were conducted in a wind tunnel with a rectangular cross-sectional area of 0.0952 sq m. The air temperature was maintained in the range of 15-200 plus or minus 0.3 degrees centigrade, and the air flow rate was varied in the range of 1.56 m/sec with a turbulence of 0.5 percent. The heat and mass transfer study was conducted on two plates with 18- and 30-micron pores in a longitudinal flow of air. The fuel (ethyl alcohol or n-hexane) was injected through a 196 x 60 x 3 mm porous plate divided into four sections. The fuel was ignited after constant flow rate and temperature were established in the wind tunnel. Local mass transfer coefficients were determined directly from the flow rate and temperature were established in the wind tunnel.
