Abstract : Single crystals in the Sr2P7O7-Mg2P2O7 system have been prepared in conjunction with crystallographic and electron spin resonance studies of alpha-Ca2P2O7 and alpha-Sr2P2O7. In an attempt to resolve the site of preferred solubility for Mn(2+), SrMnP2O7 was prepared. When this phase was found to be triclinic, emphasis was then directed toward the Sr2P2O7-Mg2PO7 system. SrMgP2O7 was prepared and found to have the alpha-Ca2P2O7 structure. The results of a study of the single crystal diffraction patterns are reported. (Author)
