Abstract : The Fano factor in germanium at liquid nitrogen temperature has been determined through the observed line widths in pulse-heights spectra from Ge(Li) detectors upon which gamma rays were incident with energies of 122, 356, 1173 and 1333 keV. Instrumental contributions to the line width were measured with a pulse generator and corrected for; the variation of charge collection with applied bias was determined and Fano factor measurements were made in a region where 100% collection efficiency was evidently obtained.
