Abstract : The key assumption of the paper, namely a constant industry wage structure and level across areas, is an approximation. The relevant question is how well the approximation serves for predicting income distribution. The size of the canonical correlation coefficients show that for predicting the distribution of incomes across states the assumption serves quite well. (Author)
