Abstract : Comparative description of the development and functioning of the male genitals of the following species of the family Argasidae - A. persicus Oken, O. papillipes Bir., O. tartakovskyi Olen, and O. lahorensis Neum. is given. Spermatogenesis of species studied is completed at the expense of nymphal nutrition. In most cases males immediately after molting appear to be not sex mature and not capable to fecundation. The stages of spermatogenesis in each testicle are set in succession from the proximal end to the distal one. That is why in the proximal part joining the vesiculae seminalis the germ zone with primary spermatogonia is always set. On the distal end at the point of joining of both testicles there are genital cells more advanced in development. For a long time unfed males keep the capacity to fecundation owing to preserving of productive prospermia in vesiculae seminalis. Reproduction of spermatogonia and formation of new spermatocytes in this period is never observed. (author)
