Abstract : The report presents the results of studies of the condensation nuclei and aerosol populations associated with the fog and stratus in the hills south of San Francisco during the summer. The research has been directed toward defining the relationships between fog droplet sizes and the physical and chemical properties of the nuclei on which the droplets form. The program has also included studies of the changes in the size distrubution of the total aerosol population during the development and dissipation of the stratus. These observations have been compared with theory and other observations in order to develop a better understanding of fog formation processes. (Author)
