Abstract : Numerous solvent systems are available for the chromatographic separation of naturally occurring indoles and their R(F) values are often used to indicate the identity of these compounds. In our attempts to find derivatives of indoles that can be used as additional chromatographic evidence for their characterization, we prepared a number of 2,4-dinitrophenylthio-(DNPS) derivatives of indoles occurring naturally. In the note, the thin-layer chromatography of these DNPS-derivatives is described and it is shown that indoles can be separated chromatographically after their DNPS-derivatives are prepared from mixtures.
