Abstract : Standard and special seismic refraction profiles were conducted on the Hawaiian arch to investigate the velocity characteristics of the upper mantle and to map the crustal structure. The travel time data from these profiles are analyzed by a modified three-dimensional delay-time or time-term method in which the basal refractor is assumed to possess velocity anisotropy and lateral variations in velocity.
