Abstract : Data on discrepancy between goals and achievement obtained from a production planning and assembling simulation, Exercise Organization, was presented for 657 managers from eight countries: Belgium, Denmark, England, India, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, and the United States. The discrepancy scores were systematically related to achievement and economic development. Realistic goal setting was related to the present rate of economic growth and percentage of population engaged in industry. In addition, managers' preference for democratic style of supervision was related to realism in goal setting. (Author)
