Abstract : An ideal process of separation of gas into two flows with different temperatures is examined. At assigned initial pressures and temperature of the gas and defined relationships of flow rates of cold and hot mass, with the help of the second law of thermodynamics, the maximum difference of temperatures is found. Also considered is the inverse process of obtaining mechanical energy in an arrangement in which there are two flows of gas with different temperatures. As a special case with equal mass flow rates of these gases the well-known thermodynamic circuit of a thermal engine is obtained. (Author)
