Abstract : A memory device in which the search for information is made in any specified portion of the memory storage is known as an associative memory device (AMD). The creation of the AMD is one of the methods by which parallel processing of the information stored in the memory device is potentially possible. As a result, the amount of time spent in retrieval is substantially reduced, and the efficiency of the information processing is consequently increased. This article is devoted to a description of the AMD and the methods of retrieval of its information. The basic function of the AMD is the comparison of a specified code of information search with all the codes stored in the memory device. An explanation of two methods of associative search is given, these two methods being differentiated by their use of 'coincidence' and 'non-coincidence' logic operations.
