Abstract : Bending of an elastic trapezoidal plate of variable thickness with an external load distributed over its entire area is examined. Sides AD and BC are always free; AB and CD can be free, freely supported, or rigidly attached. A discrete method described earlier by Yu. P. Petrov is used, which makes it unnecessary to determine the 'contour' functions and considerably simplifies solution of the problem. The boundary conditions for the above-mentioned three possible states of side AB are examined. For the discrete method, the problem is converted from two-dimensional to one-dimensional by dividing the plate. The obtained system of integrodifferential matrix equations is solved by successive approximations. A method of discrete successive approximations is also discussed. (Author)
