Abstract : A theory and a numerical procedure are presented for the determination of the inelastic axisymmetric buckling pressure of a clamped shallow spherical shell made of work hardening materials. A modified incremental theory of plasticity on the stress-strain relationships expressed in terms of Kirchhoff stress and Green strain rates is employed. A variational principle, in Lagrangian descriptions, in conjunction with the Rayleigh-Ritz technique is used to determine the buckling pressure. A comparison of the theoretical predictions obtained numerically by digital computer with available experimental results is made. (Author)
